Golf lesson questions, answered
I’m Jessica Simpson, PGA Associate and Teaching Professional at John Sikes Golf Academy at the Golf Performance Center at Eagle’s Bluff in Bullard, near Tyler. Here are answers to common questions about lessons and the GPC.
The quickest way to get your own questions answered is a free Quick Look: about 15 minutes, no pressure.
Book a free Quick LookGetting started
What is a free Quick Look?
It’s a short session, about 15 minutes, at the Golf Performance Center. We look at any part of your game or swing, I share a helpful tip or two, and we talk about your goals and what lessons could look like. It’s free, and there’s no pressure to book anything on the spot.
How does booking work?
Fill out the short form on the Quick Look page: your name, email, phone, what you’re interested in, and the days and times that usually work. I’ll email you a few time options from [email protected].
I’ve never played golf. Are lessons OK for beginners?
Absolutely. Everyone starts somewhere. We begin with grip, setup, and solid contact, then build at a comfortable pace. More on beginner golf lessons in Tyler.
At the Golf Performance Center
Is the Golf Performance Center open to the public?
Yes. You don’t have to be a member at Eagle’s Bluff. The GPC is open to the public and sits just outside the country club gate.
What are your hours?
Lesson times follow the Golf Performance Center’s hours, since that’s where I teach. Right now the GPC is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. The GPC’s hours change with the seasons, usually around the daylight saving time changes. I’ll always confirm your lesson time by email.
Where is it, and where do I park?
The GPC is at 700 Eagles Bluff Blvd in Bullard, south of Tyler toward Lake Palestine. It’s just outside the Eagle’s Bluff gate, so you won’t go through the gate. See directions from Tyler, Whitehouse, Flint and Bullard.
Do I need my own clubs?
Not to get started. If you have clubs, bring them. If not, mention it in the form and we’ll plan around it. The GPC also has rental clubs, so there’s no need to buy a set first.
What should I wear?
Comfortable golf attire you can swing in, plus golf or athletic shoes. Dress for the weather. A hat and sunscreen help on sunny days. If you’re unsure about anything, ask when I email you your time.
What is Trackman technology, and do I need to know how it works?
Trackman technology measures each shot, things like ball speed, launch, and carry distance, so we can see what’s really happening and track your progress. You don’t need to know anything about it. I keep the explanations plain.
What happens if it rains or it’s really hot?
The GPC has covered hitting bays and an indoor simulator, which gives us options when the weather isn’t great. If the weather looks bad for your time, I’ll reach out about moving to a covered or indoor spot or picking a new time.
Who I teach
Do you teach women?
Yes. I work with women who are brand new to golf, coming back after years away, or ready to feel confident playing with friends and family. More on women’s golf lessons in Tyler.
What ages do you teach juniors?
There isn’t one right age. What matters most is that your child can follow short instructions and wants to be out there. If you’re not sure they’re ready, request a Quick Look and we’ll talk it through. More on junior golf lessons in Tyler.
Paying for lessons
How do I pay?
The Quick Look is free, so there’s nothing to pay at your first visit. If you decide to book lessons after that, I’ll go over the cost and how to pay before we schedule anything, so there are no surprises.
